Oh, Miami. Vivian Arthur photographs Katelyn Tate against the candy-colored lifeguard towers of South Beach. The opener shows the model with a yellow Sony Sports Walkman clipped to her hip and orange headphones draped around her neck, and for a moment the whole thing could be 1987.
Arthur is a Miami-based fashion and beach photographer whose vibrant palette runs hotter than most and this series is the fullest expression of that. The saturation is dialed up high enough to make the turquoise, coral and green of the lifeguard stands look almost painted. Tate, a new face at Next Management Miami, has the kind of easy confidence the setting demands. Rounding out the all-female team for this shoot is Maggie, the makeup artist.
The swimwear cycles through three looks that match the location's energy. A gold string bikini that leans into a retro conceit. A yellow-and-white striped twist bandeau plays softer and pairs with gold starfish earrings that catch the light. A cream piece with navy piping and embroidered roses closes things out against the pink huts, and it's the most detailed piece in the series. The tightest portrait is saved for last: sand caught on the blonde's jawline, showing the single item of jewelry, blue sky behind her.
